Today marks the end of an amazing journey for Mika from Japan. She has spent five wonderful fun-filled days with me here in my studio, completing her training and creating this stunning vintage-style lampshade, amongst others. It’s been fantastic getting to know Mika and learning about her Japanese culture, which has always fascinated me.

Using soft pink velvet with delicate gold lining and a charming pink fringe, Mika poured her heart into crafting this piece. From selecting materials to adding the final touches, every detail reflects her dedication and passion for British-style lampshades. I’ll certainly miss having her around! 💕

Over the past few days, I’ve watched this stunning piece come to life. From selecting the perfect Indian block printed fabric to adding the final teal trim and lining, every stitch has been a labour of love.

The pride and happiness on Mika’s face as she holds her finished lampshade is truly priceless. Her smile says it all – her commitment to travel all the way from Japan to Brighton has truly paid off.

I’m still pinching myself at how my lampshade workshops have reached hundreds of people worldwide, welcoming them to my humble studio in Brighton. I wouldn’t have achieved this success without my incredible students putting their faith in me and embracing my guidance in the art of lampshade making and textile printing.

One such wonderful student, Mika, discovered my work via Instagram. After our initial Zoom meeting back in February, she decided to commit to travel all the way from Japan to attend my five-day lampshade course. Here you can see Mika working on a beautiful ruffle gathered lampshade. Her taste in fabric is absolutely fantastic—she’s chosen a stunning Indian block printed fabric. I can’t wait to show you the finished result!
